Zagueiros: William Alves, Eduardo Bauermann e Gilvan

Laterais: Jonathan, Bruno Pacheco e Breno Lopes

Volantes: Marcão, Paulinho, Silva, Ronaldo e Igor

Meias: Luiz Fernando, Diego Rosa, Andrigo e Jorginho

Atacantes: Alison, Walter e Niltinho

Southampton fans rave over Watts news

Flocking to Twitter, many Southampton fans have shown their excitement as their club dropped an official announcement on academy talent Caleb Watts.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men, languishing near the bottom of the Premier League table, are yet to win a top flight match so far this season despite some solid performances against European sides like Man City, Man United and West Ham.

After losing key players such as Danny Ings and Jannik Vestergaard in the summer, this season could be a nervy one for supporters and club chiefs as they fight to maintain their English top flight status.

As such, any positive news is welcomed, and it appears there is some cause for celebration as the club drop an exciting announcement.

Indeed, Southampton have now confirmed that promising youngster Watts has put pen to paper on a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2023.

His previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season but the 19-year-old has now signed fresh terms which will keep him at St Mary’s until the following summer.

Flocking to this development, many Saints supporters have raved about the news – find all of their best reactions from social media down below.

Newcastle transfer news on Adeyemi

Newcastle United have reportedly knocked on the door to try and sign Karim Adeyemi.

The Lowdown: Hot prospect

Adeyemi is a player that is really emerging as one of the hottest prospects in world football at just 19 years of age.

He has already been called up three times to the senior squad for the Germany national team for crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying games, and coach Hanzi Flick has been full of praise for him, claiming that he is ‘ice-cold’ in front of goal.

With no fewer than 14 goals and two assists in 21 matches in total for RB Salzburg so far this season (Transfermarkt), it is hard not to agree, and he will no doubt only get better considering these performances are coming so early in his career.

The Latest: Newcastle knocked on door

As per Sport1, both the St. James’ Park faithful as well as Tottenham Hotspur have knocked on the door for Adeyemi.

However, a transfer to the North East is currently ‘out of the question’, as Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund have all been credited with interest in the striker, so he may prefer to move to a club currently competing in the UEFA Champions League.

The Verdict: Unrealistic

Given that the Tyneside outfit are currently in a relegation battle, it seems very unrealistic that Adeyemi would move to them at this moment in time.

He has been coveted by some of the top teams around Europe, and so it is more likely that he will move to one of them.

There is no doubt that Adeyemi would add a lot to the Magpies squad, as his manager Matthias Jaissle has cited his ‘brutal’ speed and quality.

Callum Wilson is unsurprisingly the team’s top scorer this season with four goals, but he has been injured for some parts of their campaign, and so they need to bring in another goal scorer in their ranks to ease the burden off of him and replace him when he is out injured.

Adeyemi has already proven that he can score goals despite his young age, and the potential is certainly there for all to see. However, a move to the Toon seems unlikely for now.

Teams face heavy fines for slow over-rates

In an attempt to ensure that the matches finish on time, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has said that teams will be fined heavily for not bowling their overs within the stipulated time limit

The IPL has sought to minimise match-time delays by announcing unprecedented fines for teams who don’t complete their overs within the stipulated time limit. The captain will be fined $20,000 for a first offence, the entire team will be penalised $220,000 for the second, and the third offence will result in a team fine of $360,000 and a one-match ban for the captain. The announcement followed reports, confirmed by Modi, that the IPL was adding 15 minutes to each match – broken up into two mid-innings slots – as a “tactical time-out”, though with the dual purpose of fitting in advertisement sections.”Last year we found that 59 out of 59 games went overtime by as high as 45 to 50 minutes or an hour,” Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman and commissioner, said. “Each game was being dragged further and further and further. The reasons were that players were going back and forth with messages and there was a lot of strategy being decided from time to time.”So we decided that we’re going to tighten those as far as overs are concerned, time of overs is concerned and time of play is concerned.”Modi confirmed the tactical time-out, a seven-and-half-minute break after 10 overs designed to allow teams to discuss strategy instead of having to spend time on it during the course of the game. The breaks in each innings will lengthen the duration of a Twenty20 match from three hours to three hours and 15 minutes. The seven-and-a-half minute break will see the stadium crowd entertained by a live band while television audiences will watch three, separate two-and-a-half minute segments, two of which will be sold commercially. The third will show the teams taking drinks and discussing tactics.

Aston Villa: Declan Firth on trial

Aston Villa have taken versatile Chelsea teenager Declan Firth on trial, according to Birmingham Live.

The Lowdown: Livramento interest

This isn’t the first time Villa have been interested in a Stamford Bridge teenager.

Villa were eyeing a move for Tino Livramento in the summer, however, the full-back ended up signing for Southampton and has been a regular in the Premier League under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Johan Lange and co have now acted on another Blues youngster, with Firth only signing for at Stamford Bridge back in May.

The Latest: Firth trial

Birmingham Live shared a story on Friday evening, claiming Firth is on trial at Villa.

The 19-year-old, who can play as a left-back, left-midfielder or a right-midfielder, started for the Under-23’s in a victory over West Brom.

Ashley Preece labelled Firth’s display as ‘menacing’, with Caleb Chukwuemeka grabbing the headlines with a hat-trick in a 4-2 win.

The Verdict: Smart move?

After missing out on Livramento, it seems as if Villa have taken swift action when it comes to their interest in Firth.

Bringing him to Bodymoor Heath for a trial seems to be a smart option, and should he impress in Mark Delaney’s side, he could be the latest teenager to pen terms at the club’s academy.

We’ve seen at St Mary’s this season with Livramento the impact a youngster from Chelsea can make when given an opportunity, and who knows, Villa could be onto the next impressive talent coming out of Stamford Bridge.

In other news: Source says Lange wants 40-goal ace on £25k-p/w for Villa; he’s scoring a goal per game.

Predicted Rangers XI to face Lyon

Rangers face off against French giants Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night in their opening group stage match of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Gers qualified for the group stages after beating Alashkert in the play-off round, having been knocked out of the early stages of Champions League qualification.

Steven Gerrard will now be hoping that his side can go far in the Europa League to make up for their Champions League failure, starting with a win against Lyon.

They head into the clash off the back of a 2-1 win in the Scottish Premiership. How many changes will Gerrard make to his team from that game? Here is our predicted XI for the match…

We are predicting that Gerrard will make three changes to his XI, with Connor Goldson, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic coming into the team.

Starting at the back, Goldson coming in for Filip Helander is a relatively easy prediction to make. The Swedish centre-back has been ruled out for the foreseeable future after suffering a knee injury against St Johnstone, with Goldson set to return after missing out due to self-isolation over the weekend.

Earlier this year, Goldson was called a ‘mountain’ by Gerrard for his strong performances on the pitch. He told The Scotsman:

“Connor has been an absolute mountain for this team, a warrior.

“I can’t describe to you how well he has done for this team, not just in terms of what you have seen on the pitch but also his leadership on the inside of the club and his availability every single day.”

This highlights his importance to the side when fit and why, with Helander out, he should return to the starting XI immediately.

We published an article on Wednesday explaining why Borna Barisic should come in at left-back ahead of Calvin Bassey. The Croatian international could add more creativity to the side on the left flank, helping the Gers open up the Lyon defence.

Finally, we are predicting a slight change to the make-up of the midfield with Lundstram coming into the team in place of Joe Aribo. With Scottish Premiership matches coming thick and fast, Gerrard could need to rotate his squad to ensure that players do not suffer any muscle injuries due to being overloaded with minutes, so Aribo could be chosen to step out for this match.

He has started all five of Rangers’ league matches this term and averaged 84 minutes per game, which suggests that he could do with a rest as he has been an almost ever-present. Lundstram, meanwhile, has only started once this season and this clash with Lyon could be the perfect opportunity for him to come in and show Gerrard what he is capable of.

We are predicting the rest of the team will stay the same from the win over St Johnstone, with Jon McLaughlin, James Tavernier, Leon Balogun, Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Ryan Kent filling out the XI.

AND in other news, Gerrard must unleash £18k-p/w Rangers gem with “terrific quality”, he can unlock Lyon…

Consortium insight into Newcastle takeover

Mark Douglas has dropped some promising insight from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium on the potential takeover of Newcastle United.

The Lowdown: Arbitration set

The date for the Magpies’ arbitration case against the Premier League over the stalled takeover deal with the consortium has now been set for 3 January 2022.

This comes after the separate Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) claim between Mike Ashley and the Premier League over their decision-making process with regards to the bid officially started on Wednesday morning.

The Latest: Consortium insight

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, Douglas has dropped some insight from the consortium into the takeover and the upcoming arbitration hearing, revealing that the prospective new owners would be ‘ready to go’ if the results of the proceedings go in their favour.

They have previously drawn up plans for potential recruitment in each of the last few transfer windows, with the belief that a resolution in January is now ‘possible’.

The Verdict: Promising

It is certainly promising to hear of the consortium’s stance, for if Newcastle manage to win their arbitration case, then the process of the takeover could well be accelerated.

There are likely to be big names in terms of recruitment on the list of the prospective owners, who will hope to invest in the team to help the club to become successful, which is an exciting prospect for the Toon Army.

However, the Premier League will equally feel as if they have a strong case themselves, and so it is anyone’s guess what the ruling will be.

South Africa aim for first-innings advantage

South Africa finished a strong first day with six Australian wickets but already their thoughts are turning to producing a significant total to limit the difficulties in the fourth innings

South Africa finished a strong first day with six Australian wickets but already their thoughts are turning to producing a significant total to limit the difficulties in the fourth innings. Australia’s Simon Katich expects the pitch to become lower and slower as the match goes on and there are already cracks that are being noticed by hopeful bowlers and wary batsmen. After Australia ended the day at 6 for 267, the visitors were intent on limiting them to 350 at the worst. “It’s very, very important to get a big, big total in the first innings to take a bit of pressure off the second innings,” the assistant coach Vinnie Barnes said. “The wicket does get a bit slow and lower, and the spinners come into play.”Barnes said his side was slightly ahead but felt it could have been a”fantastic day” if Hashim Amla had held on to a relatively easy catch when Michael Clarke was 69. Clarke ended the day on 73 as he lifted the side from another uncomfortable start from the misfiring order.Katich began strongly by racing to 47 off 52 balls, but Australia were struggling at 5 for 162 before Clarke and Brad Haddin put on 75. “We fought back really well in the last session,” Katich said. “South Africa had their noses in front and then with that partnership between Clarke and Haddin we got ourselves in a position where we could get to 350 and put some pressure on them.”Katich, the New South Wales captain, has plenty of experience on the ground and said it looked like a dry wicket and “runs on the board are always vital”. “This one will deteriorate differently to the Melbourne wicket,” he said, “so hopefully this gives us a bit of an advantage over the next few days.”Clarke has not scored a Test century on his home ground and Katich saidthe signs were good. “You can tell he’s keen for a big one here,” Katich said. “The way he played today was very, very good and hopefully he can carry on that in the morning with Mitchell Johnson. If we get one or two really good partnerships we’ll get ourselves in a reasonably good position.”

Thiago Santos sofre lesão e vira desfalque no Palmeiras
