Deve voltar ao time no sábado, contra o São Bernardo, no Pacaembu.

NUFC: Ben Jacobs provides update on PIF

In recent comments made on Twitter, Ben Jacobs discussed the latest on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s 2021-2025 plans for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the body that failed with a takeover of Newcastle United last year.

In Jacobs’ tweets, the journalist revealed that the Public Investment Fund Twitter account disabled comments on a video of Mohammed bin Salman unveiling his future plans for PIF due to the replies being ‘flooded with NUFC takeover talk’.

He continued by stating that this was in no way in relation to the potential resurrection of the takeover deal, but more the ‘social team’ of PIF ‘playing it safe to avoid any negative PR’.

And, when questioned by a fan as to why PIF decided to choose now as the time to disable comments, having never seemingly done so previously, Jacobs confirmed that ‘this is a big new phase of their plan’ and that they don’t want to ‘pull attention away from their main message’.

Transfer Tavern Take

With The Sun recently claiming that a ‘peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Qatar’, which was agreed earlier this month, could bring an ‘end to the piracy’ of BeIN Sports in Saudia Arabia, something which could ‘pave the way’ for the takeover deal to go through, the disabling of comments on PIF’s recent video, according to Jabobs, is not something that Newcastle fans should be worried about, it would seem as if there is indeed still the hope of the deal being resurrected at present.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith can outsmart Leeds’ Marcelo Bielsa with tactical gamble

Having led Leeds United to the Championship title last season, it was inevitable that a lot of people’s eyes were going on to be Marcelo Bielsa.

“Here comes El Loco” was the title that The Guardian ran with in the first week of September, as excitement grew over seeing the man Pep Guardiola hails as his mentor.

But whilst Leeds have had an encouraging start to the new Premier League campaign with seven points from their opening five games, that’s not a patch on what Dean Smith is managing over at Aston Villa.

Having survived relegation back to the Championship by the skin of their teeth last season, Villa have done a complete 360, and currently sit second in the table with four wins from four – even a point against Leeds on Friday night would send them top and above Everton thanks to goal difference.

Despite the fact they’ve confounded everybody’s expectations, Bielsa continues to be the topic of conversation.

Sky Sports ran a lengthy feature ahead of his team’s clash against Manchester City about how he inspired Guardiola, whilst before that, after a 4-3 loss to Liverpool, the headline was “Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds show no compromise in Liverpool thriller”. It’s been all about how the Argentine has shaped the Yorkshire club in his own image.

He’s a magnet for attention with his quirky style of management – since when did sitting on a stool on the touch-line become a thing? – and it’s no surprise that people gravitate towards that.

But on Friday, Smith can strike a blow to that love-in with a tactical masterstroke. In the games Leeds have dropped points in thus far – their defeats to Liverpool and Wolves and the draw to City – they have come undone against teams who have quick forwards who are prepared to run in behind.

Spot the fact from the fib: Are these Premier League records true or false?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick, Raheem Sterling netted for City, and Wolves had the likes of Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Adama Traore to call upon as they won last time out.

With Leeds’ high-pressing, by-passing that with a quick ball over the top for wingers and central strikers to chase onto can leave them unstuck, and it’s why Smith may be tempted to throw in someone like Keinan Davis into the attack on Friday.

The 22-year-old is a willing runner and makes constant movements into the channels, and instead of relying on just Ollie Watkins to do that, having another outlet in Davis could leave Bielsa in a muddle.

Smith has the perfect opportunity to get one over on his counterpart, and prove why he’s been the outstanding manager of these first few weeks of the Premier League season.

Aston Villa transfer target Josh King opens the door for January exit

Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster TV2, rumoured Aston Villa transfer target, Josh King, has opened the door to potentially leaving current club Bournemouth in January.

What’s the word?

Reports in recent weeks and months had suggested the Cherries striker has been on Villa’s radar, with some outlets even claiming that a late, deadline-day beating move was on the cards.

That however, failed to transpire, with King unable to secure a move away from the Vitality Stadium. However, his recent comments suggests that he is already lining up an exit in the January transfer window, and that will surely alert the Villa hierarchy to a possible deal.

He said (as quoted by The Birmingham Mail): “If you had asked me two months ago if I thought I would be in Bournemouth (now), I would have answered 110 per cent no.

“It is a bit special to be a football player who has nine months left on his contract. We’ll see if I go now or in January. Had it been up to me, I would have already signed for a club and started the season, played four games and been in top form.”

Lange’s work isn’t done yet

Having been unable to secure a last-minute deal for King in the final hours of the transfer window, Johan Lange’s attentions must already be turned January, when he will have another opportunity to lure the Norway international to Villa Park.

The fact King, once described by former Cherries boss Eddie Howe as being “unique”, has openly suggested a winter exit is on the cards, and also that he will only have a few months remaining on his current contract at Bournemouth, further strengthens Villa’s hand.

Lange can secure Dean Smith a vital addition to his forward ranks, taking the pressure off new boy Ollie Watkins somewhat. King’s arrival could be the kind of new signing that ensures Villa’s bubble doesn’t burst in the New Year.

And in other news, Aston Villa dodged a bullet by not signing this Premier League man for £5m.

Leeds target Harry Wilson could follow in Ross McCormack’s footsteps

Leeds United have been one of the most exciting teams in England to watch over the past couple of years, and that’s due to Marcelo Bielsa’s excellent coaching and tactics.

However, one thing has been missing at Leeds, and that’s a set-piece threat.

Leeds’ dire record from corners was a talking point last season, but one thing that somehow avoided a lot of criticism was their poor free-kick record.

Kalvin Phillips is Leeds’ chief free-kick taker these days, and despite going close on numerous occasions, most famously against Liverpool where he flashed one past Alisson’s post, he’s only actually scored one direct free-kick since Bielsa’s arrival.

Leeds haven’t really had a proper free-kick threat since Ross McCormack departed for Fulham, with Phillips and Pablo Hernandez having just three free-kick goals between them in the last four seasons, while Alex Mowatt only managed two during his three-year spell as Leeds’ designated taker.

In comparison, McCormack netted three in his final season at the club, making him a potent threat from dead-balls.

Fortunately, United’s fortunes in this area could change sooner rather than later as they are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Harry Wilson from Liverpool.

Wilson has cemented himself as one of the deadliest free-kick marksmen in the country, netting no fewer than seven free-kicks in the last two seasons, and if United bring him in, he will add a new dynamic to the Whites’ squad.

Of course, you don’t sign a player just for their free-kick ability, but Wilson also possesses a number of other attributes that make us believe that he could be Pablo Hernandez’s long-term successor, so this is a transfer that we believe United should be looking to finalise.

If the £15.75m-rated man does come in, Bielsa’s side will become that much more entertaining than they already are, because there are few finer sights in football than a free-kick whistling into the top corner.

In other news, Leeds are interested in a player who would be a perfect Bielsa project…

Sunderland: Stewart Donald insists that the door is open for prospective takeover bids

Current Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has left the door open for Sammy Yu and Mark Campbell to make takeover bids.

Back in April 2018, Donald arrived as the club’s new ownerafter taking over from Ellis Short but, just 19 months into the businessman’s tenure, he made public his desire to sell the club.

With Sunderland missing out on the chance of promotion from League One for a second successive season, there have been calls from some fans for Donald to sell up.

Sammy Yu and Mark Campbell have both been credited with takeover interest over the last few weeks, although the former claimed that Donald had failed to acknowledge attempts to contact him regarding the matter.

Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle as quoted by Sunderland Echo, Donald spoke about a potential bid arriving and revealed how talks went with Campbell.

“The fans have asked me to leave, and whether it’s Mark Campbell or somebody else,” he said.

“If somebody passes the EFL [tests], has the funds and has the vision… I’m not quite sure what the fans want me to do.”

Donald was speaking after he met with fans on Thursday to discuss the sale of the club and other pressing matters.

It seems that, if either Yu or Campbell have the necessary funds, then Donald will welcome a bid – so why has it taken this long?

Something does not seem right at the moment and it appears that the current Black Cats owner is holding out for a bid that will guarantee getting his money back on his initial investment.

Donald says that he does not know what fans want, but it seems quite clear they want a new owner to come in and for things to change as quickly as possible.

Manchester United: Red Devils preparing shock move for free agent Jeff Hendrick

Manchester United could spring a surprise and sign former Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a free transfer this summer.

According to Football Insider, as per Daily Express, Man United are plotting a shock move for Hendrick in the summer following his release by the Clarets and amid reported interest from AC Milan. The Red Devils are ready to move for him as he can fit into multiple positions in midfield.

It is no secret that United want to sign Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho, but the 2-2 draw with Southampton showed that still need to shore up defensively.

The Irish international, who has won 54 caps for his country, is now a free agent.

Hendrick has impressed for Burnley this season, as Sean Dyche’s side have climbed their way into the top half of the Premier League table. He played 24 games in the Premier League this term, scoring two goals, supplying two assists, winning 1.1 headers per game and recording a passing accuracy rate of 75% (via WhoScored).

Nemanja Matic remains the club’s only specialist in the defensive midfield position, which is a major cause for concern as the 31-year-old Serbian isn’t getting any younger, but the Republic of Ireland midfielder could provide cover as a midfield anchor if necessary.

Dyche had made it clear that he wanted Hendrick to stay with the Clarets but the 28-year-old rejected the offer of a new deal from the Turf Moor outfit.

His versatility could prove useful as Solskjaer’s side seek to challenge for silverware next season. However, whether or not the Red Devils will be able to stave off interest from AC Milan and Newcastle is another matter altogether.

United fans, should Ed Woodward sign Jeff Hendrick in the summer? Let us know in the comments section!
