Spurs still keen on £80m-rated Jack Grealish, imagine him next to Giovani Lo Celso

Tottenham Hotspur have been long linked with a move for Jack Grealish and such reports simply won’t go away…

What’s the word?

According to French outlet Soccer Link, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is attempting a squad overhaul with English and experienced Premier League players at the top of their list, one of which is the Aston Villa skipper.

Two years ago, the 24-year-old very nearly joined the north Londoners in a £6m deal back when the Midlands outfit were cash-strapped and languishing in the Championship but in the time that Daniel Levy hung up the phone over negotiations and landed at their pre-season tour of USA, Villa had been saved.

Now teams have been told to fork out around £80m after they staved off relegation on the final day of the 19/20 season.

Imagine him and Lo Celso

This is, of course, a lot of money in this summer’s complicated transfer market but if the Spurs chairman can somehow negotiate that down or even pay up for him, then just imagine how good their attack would be next season.

Mourinho is still technically in need of a replacement for Christian Eriksen and there can’t be many better options out there than Grealish, who has just proven he’s more than capable of impressing in the top-flight.

Only Kevin de Bruyne managed to create more chances than the Englishman last season whilst he also averaged 2.5 key passes, 2 shots and 2 dribbles per game, via WhoScored, on top of his ten goals and eight assists in all competitions.

Despite losing the game 3-2 back in February, Grealish gave Serge Aurier all sorts of nightmares on the day – per SofaScore, he recorded five key passes, two successful dribbles and won eight duels.

His situation at Villa has been likened to Gunners great Thierry Henry – that’s how impossible he will be to replace whilst his boss Dean Smith compared him to Dele Alli, claiming that he has “star quality as well”.

If that’s not enough, Robert Pires believes Grealish is “very complete,” so Mourinho stick the “special player” alongside Giovani Lo Celso and ahead of new lynchpin Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and watch Spurs’ engine room transform into something spectacular.

Graças a Deus estou recuperado.

Tottenham Hotspur: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to join Spurs, could see Walker-Peters head the other way [Opinion]

Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg wants to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear that the 24-year-old is the player he needs to transform Tottenham into a side capable of challenging for silverware next season.

Hojbjerg was stripped of the captain’s armband after refusing to sign a new deal at Southampton and he has told Ralph Hasenhuttl he wants to move on to bigger and better things. Spurs are leading the race to sign the Dane in the summer, amid interest from Ajax, and that could see Kyle Walker-Peters move in the opposite direction.

Mourinho has decided that Eric Dier’s best position is in the defence and considers Hojbjerg to be a significant upgrade on the midfield options he has available at the moment.

As it stands, this will be bad news for Walker-Peters, who fell out of favour with Mourinho after appearing to take aim at the Portuguese in an interview with the Saints’ official website.

He is only one year younger than Hojbjerg and has played every single minute of Southampton’s past four games, helping Hasenhuttl’s side to beat Watford and Manchester City while earning draws against Everton and Manchester United.

Hasenhuttl wants to sign a right-back before the start of next season and is a keen admirer of Walker-Peters. Although Mourinho had suggested that the 23-year-old could still return to Tottenham, he added that he won’t stop him from leaving if he wishes to do so.

It now seems that Spurs are eager to use him as part of an exchange deal for Hojbjerg, despite him impressing for the Saints since the Premier League restart. No matter how hard he tries on the pitch, the defender seems to have burnt most of his bridges back in north London.

Mourinho is prepared to let him go, which could end up being a decision he regrets in the future, as the academy graduate has reminded his parent club of exactly what he has to offer.

Tottenham fans, do you think Mourinho should give Kyle Walker-Peters another chance? Let us know in the comments below!

Newcastle fans fume at potential Bruce successor

Newcastle United are edging ever closer to completing a historic takeover as Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium appears only a confirmation away from being the club’s new owners.

They are expected to complete a £300m deal with the deposit and contracts sorted according to reports, and it now appears that they could be wanting to bring in their own manager, too.

Liverpool fans react to Mohamed Salah’s performance against RB Salzburg

It took a while, but Liverpool finally got the job done against RB Salzburg.

During the first half, it looked like they could be in trouble. The Austrian team took the game to the European champions, with them having six shots on target during the first half. After the break, though, the Reds looked far more in control, and once Naby Keita scored the opener, there was only ever going to be one winner. Now, Jurgen Klopp’s men can look forward to the next round.

Mohamed Salah was the other man on the scoresheet in this 2-0 victory, but he could have had an awful lot more. During the 90 minutes, he had no less than nine shots at goal, and he missed some truly fantastic chances.

It is fair to say the fans weren’t at all happy with his finishing.

There were some horrific misses from the 67-time Egypt international. In all fairness, considering he has 82 goals in 125 games for the club, this was more an anomaly rather than the rule, but the former Borussia Dortmund manager will be hoping that it is the last time the 27-year-old is so wasteful in front of goal.

He did show that he knows where the target is during this match with the goal he grabbed. It was fantastically taken, with the former AS Roma man scoring from what looked like an impossible angle.

There was plenty of praise for the way he put that chance away.

It just goes to show that perseverance pays off.

Real Reds will get full marks: Take the ultimate Liverpool quiz below…

Still, not everyone was satisfied despite him effectively putting the game to bed with his goal.

His track record speaks for itself. He has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot in each of the last two seasons, and that goal tally previously mentioned is stunning. He may not be playing at his peak, but he still has 11 goals and six assists in 21 matches this campaign. Many players would kill for that kind of record.

Still, this week, Klopp may give his star winger some extra finishing exercises at Melwood.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans react to this incredible Salah stat.

Manchester City fans baffled with Claudio Bravo’s red card against Atalanta

Manchester City fans are confused with the red card shown to Claudio Bravo against Atalanta in midweek. The Chile international came on for the second half after Ederson went off injured, however, the Chile international was dismissed after just 35 minutes.

This bizarre sequence of events ended up forcing in Kyle Walker of all people between the sticks, and the right-back ended up seeing the 1-1 draw out.

Although, City fans are fuming with the decision to send off Bravo, with pictures showing minimal contact from the Chilean.

The keeper himself tweeted an angle of the foul which Bravo has questioned along with the fans. One supporter said “it’s a travesty”, as other supporters why VAR wasn’t consulted in the midst of all this.

This is, however, not the first time in which Bravo has been sent off for City in Europe. The 36-year-old was dismissed against his old club Barcelona back in 2016 by seeing a straight red card.

As a result of his recent dismissal, Bravo will now miss the next European game.

City are on 10 points after the four matches and their place in the knockout rounds is on the brink of being secured.

Here’s what some fans have had to say about the controversial red card…

Sol Campbell believes Sunderland need to return to basics to move up the table

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Sol Campbell spoke highly of Sunderland as a club after his team were defeated by the Black Cats on Saturday, but stressed that their aim of promotion won’t be easy to achieve.

What did he say?

The former Newcastle defender spoke of the good aspects of the club which should make them a big contender in the promotion race, but in a division as wide open as League One it won’t be straight-forward.

Sunderland have stuttered so far due to a lack of consistency and even a new manager hasn’t helped too much, with two wins matched by two defeats in league competition under Phil Parkinson.

So far the Black Cats’ home and away form has been a contrast, something which hasn’t been lost on Campbell, whose side were only narrowly beaten at the Stadium of Light despite one win in 16 league games this year.

Speaking post-match, as reported by the Sunderland Echo, he said:”They have the budget, they have the fans, the home form will definitely get them there, that is key if you want to get in the play-offs and have a chance of going up.”Where they want to be, they aren’t now, it doesn’t really match up with the facilities, the set-up, Sunderland need to be higher than where they are.”But there are no gimmes, you have to work and earn it. You have to earn the right to play before you can start bossing the game.”Watch League 1 Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv BelowBack to basicsThere have been positives and negatives to Sunderland since Parkinson took over, but he has simplified things and instilled his hard-working values already. Those are the kind of basics Campbell is referring to, and has been reflected in the two clean sheets Sunderland have kept in his two home games. If the team can maintain the positive home form Campbell alludes to then they will have a great base to build a promotion campaign, and if Parkinson can settle on his favoured team soon that will help massively.Sunderland are still struggling on the goal front with the exclusion of the home match against Tranmere a couple of weeks ago, and therefore the familiarity of a regular starting could be of benefit to the team. Will Grigg has scored just one of their 22 league goals, a record which is just the ninth-best in the league, and suggests their place outside the play-off places is well deserved. The team has lacked discipline, too, with 30 yellow cards and two red cards picked up. If Parkinson can get that right, and improve the lack of quality which leaves their pass accuracy at a lowly 72%, then Sunderland should begin to move up the table.
