Everton: Darren Bent tips Moise Kean to leave after PSG loan

Darren Bent has tipped Moise Kean to leave Everton once his loan spell at PSG ends at the end of the 2020/21 term.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Spurs, Aston Villa and Sunderland striker thinks that if the Italy international continues to score a lot of goals for the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League finalists, then he may get himself a move away from the Goodison Park faithful:

“You know what’s going to happen, he’s going to go to PSG, score all these goals and play really well, Everton are going to want to bring him back and he’s not going to want to come back.

“In that respect, I can understand it because he’s not really been given much of an opportunity at Everton – I know he’s not helped himself as well in certain situations – but he’s going to go to PSG, find his form, link up with some of those players, enjoy his football, find his confidence again.

“The last thing he wants to do is leave PSG, come back to Everton, fall behind Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, not get much game time and be like: ‘What’s the point in me coming back here?’

“I reckon if he scores 15 to 20 goals, does really, really well, he won’t come back.”

Kean has had a very good start at PSG

Indeed, Kean has had a very good start to life at Paris Saint-Germain, scoring no fewer than five goals and making a further assist in just seven games in all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Thomas Tuchel has previously hailed the impact that he has had on the reigning French champions, claiming that the 20-year-old has ‘a great physical capacity’.

Everton may look to sell Kean

Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti’s team may look to sell Kean for a good price at the end of his loan spell should he keep banging in the goals in France.

The striker was nowhere near as prolific for the Merseyside club, as he only managed to find the back of the net twice and make just two assists in 31 matches in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have also scored a very impressive 15 goals between them so far in this campaign, and so perhaps selling Kean would not be the worst idea in the world, although a lack of attacking talent does seem to be an issue for the Blues.

Nonetheless, the forward could well get a move away from the Toffees at the end of his loan spell as Bent has claimed.

Glasgow Rangers: Morelos said to be committed to Gers

As per The Daily Record, Alfredo Morelos is said to be committed to Glasgow Rangers amidst interest from Lille.

Morelos has been linked with a switch to the Ligue 1 outfit, with him said to have agreed personal terms with the club.

However, although he is said to be unhappy with previous moves being blocked, he is believed to be committed to Steven Gerrard’s side and is more than happy to stay at Ibrox.

Considering those reports saying he has agreed a move away, it is somewhat of a shock to now hear that he would be happy to remain in Glasgow, but it would be fantastic news for Gerrard. Even though he has recently signed Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, losing a player with 79 goals in 140 matches would be a blow to his chances of winning his first piece of silverware since making the move north of the border.

Of course, with almost two months of the transfer window still left, there remains plenty of time for the situation to change, but this does offer a glimmer of hope to the 54-time Scottish champions that their star player could be with them for a little while longer.

Gander Green Lane

Key information about Gander Green Lane

Gander Green Lane was built in 1898 and now houses National League’s Sutton United side. The ground is located in Sutton in South London and has played host to England C team and FA Sunday Cup games in recent times.

Its current maximum capacity stands at 5,013 – with 765 being seated places – and it has a pitch that measures 110 by 70 yards. The surface is covered with artificial turf and there is no running track surrounding it.

The record attendance at Gander Green Lane was set when 14,000 people watched Sutton United get battered 6-0 by Leeds United in the fourth round of the 1969/70 FA Cup.

A history of Gander Green Lane

Even though Gander Green Lane’s history goes all the way back to the late 19th century, the site was initially used as nothing more than allotments and open fields. The first official maps that showed it as a ‘football ground’ appeared in 1913. Back then, it only had a small pavillon and a turnstile entrance.

Of course, over the years, this has changed dramatically and none of the pavilions survived to this day, nor did the Strawberry Lodge, a large residential building on the west side of the ground that was replaced by terraced houses. Still, the first ever game Sutton United played at Gander Green Lane – known back then as Adult School Sports Ground – was actually in 1912.

The hosts welcomed Guards Depot FC in an FA Cup clash and the first league match followed suit, this time Sutton winning 1-0 against Redhill in front of a crowd of 800 people. Interestingly enough, at the end of that season, Sutton left the ground, leaving it to Sutton Adult School who formed their own team.

However, the original tenants would return in August 1919, this time to stay for good. The following years brought more redevelopment to Gander Green Lane as the main stand was erected in 1951, with the seats being donated by Chelsea. In 1980, the two small wooden stands were replaced by a covered standing terrace, which is known as the Rec Terrace.

There were some other refurbishments over the years such as the levelling of the end of the stadium and the addition of new terracing in 1997. And interestingly, since Gander Green Lane was also used for athletics, the ground used to have a running track surrounding it but that was removed in 2014, the same year when new dugouts and player tunnels were also constructed.

On 22 April 2015, Sutton United got new roommates as Sutton Common Rovers announced they would be sharing the ground from the 2015/16 season onward. That same year, the club also installed a new artificial pitch.

Gander Green Lane was then officially renamed the Knights Community Stadium two years later, in 2017, with the club striking a three-year sponsorship deal with the Knights Foundation.

Tickets to watch Sutton United at Gander Green Lane

All tickets to watch Sutton United play at Gander Green Lane can be found and purchased on the club’s official website. An adult ticket will cost you £15 but the price will change depending on when you actually buy the ticket. On-the-day prices are £2 more expensive.

The club also has season tickets on offer and you can grab an adult one for £169.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Predicted XI to face Manchester United

Brighton hope to take another step towards Premier League survival tonight when they welcome Manchester United to the Amex Stadium.

It’s a fixture which holds happy memories for the Seagulls, who have beaten the Red Devils on their last two visits to Falmer, including the 1-0 win which ensured their top-flight safety back in May 2018.

Graham Potter’s side go into the match off the back of impressive results against Arsenal and Leicester, although the visitors have won their last two matches and are in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

Jose Izquierdo remains sidelined for Brighton, who could also be without Adam Webster after the defender injured his hamstring against the Foxes last week (as per Brighton & Hove Independent). Steven Alzate is also doubtful for tonight’s clash.

Football Transfer Tavern predicts the Seagulls’ line-up for the game, which shows three changes from the team that started the 0-0 draw at Leicester.

Mat Ryan will be between the sticks as per usual, although there could be a change in the centre-back partnership ahead of him. If Webster isn’t fit enough for tonight, Shane Duffy looks set to come in alongside Lewis Dunk. Dan Burn should line out at left-back again while the impressive performance of Tariq Lamptey on the other flank against Leicester should see him keep his place, despite him picking up a minor facial injury during that encounter.

Potter fielded a 4-4-2 at the King Power Stadium and might stick with that formation again, albeit with a couple of changes in midfield. Alexis Mac Allister started against the Foxes but could make way for Leandro Trossard, while Pascal Gross, who scored in both Premier League wins over Manchester United, might get the nod instead of Yves Bissouma. The German comes in alongside Dale Stephens in the middle of the park while Aaron Mooy looks good for another start on the right-hand side.

In attack, Brighton’s top scorer Neal Maupay will surely start, while Aaron Connolly played well enough at Leicester a week ago (one shot on target and winning an early penalty) to deserve another start here, even if he hasn’t scored in the league since October.

Brighton fans, is this the line-up you would choose for tonight? What changes would you consider making? Have your say by commenting below!

Philippe Coutinho – Profile

Name: Philippe Coutinho

Club: Barcelona

Date of Birth: 12 June 1992

Position: Attacking midfielder, left-winger

PHILIPPE COUTINHO – HIS CAREER SO FAR

Philippe Coutinho’s dream move to Barcelona soon turned into a real nightmare. The Brazilian became Barcelona’s most expensive signing in the history of the club when he was transferred from Liverpool but soon, both parties realised Coutinho and Barca don’t exactly fit. But his sudden and quite unexpected fall from grace doesn’t mean his career thus far is unremarkable or unimpressive.

The now 28-year-old attacking midfielder started his footballing journey back home in Brazil, playing for Vasco da Gama, first in the Brazilian Serie B and then the Serie A. But it wouldn’t take long for the European giants to take notice of the flamboyant player that was starting to emerge from the youth squads and Inter Milan were the first one take a gamble.

In the summer of 2008, the 16-year-old Coutinho would pack his bags and head for Europe. In Italy, he would end up playing a total of 47 games for the Nerazzurri, scoring five and assisting four more. However, during the 2011/12 season, the Brazilian was loaned out to Espanyol in Catalonia, not knowing the winds of fate would take him across town to their mortal enemies in the not so distant future.

He was promptly returned to Inter having scored five goals and assisted one in 15 appearances for club, and in January 2013, his £8.5m transfer to Liverpool was announced. The best and brightest moments in Coutinho’s career indeed happened at Anfield and it is there, under both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp, that he would ultimately establish himself as one of the world’s best.

His debut came on 11 February 2013 in a defeat to West Bromwich Albion and the first goal for the Reds followed suit as the Brazilian rattled the inside of the opposition’s net on his full debut in a 5–0 romp of Swansea City on 17 February.

In 201 games played for the Merseyside team, Coutinho would end up scoring 54 goals and assisting 45 before he realised his childhood dream of joining Barcelona. But, as we now know, that would end in misery and the Brazilian would get labelled a flop following a rather poor stint in the Catalan capital.

And while 26 goals and 11 assists in 76 games is not necessarily a terrible record, his failure to get used to the new style, pressure and expectations of his immense price tag, Coutinho would eventually depart for Bayern Munich on a one-season loan deal, spending the whole 2019/20 in Bavaria.

There, he tallied nine goals and eight assists across 34 matches but will now be returning to his parent club ahead of the new campaign, his future yet to be fully decided.

TRANSFER LATEST

Needless to say, there have been plenty of transfer rumours surrounding Coutinho in recent times. Ever since his struggles at Barcelona first became apparent, the transfer news haven’t exactly stopped. The latest ones, however, are linking him with a move to Arsenal of all places.

Some of the reports state the Gunners have been talking to his agent and are interested in acquiring the Brazilian’s services. Of course, there were some Barcelona news that came out of Catalonia straight after that and it seems they will demand a hefty transfer fee or a big loan fee if they are to part with their man.

Neither of those, however, seem like acceptable terms for Arsenal and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder. Some transfer rumours were linking him with numerous top Premier League clubs as well and as it currently stands, he won’t be short of offers come the summer transfer window.

PLAYER PROFILE

Even though he has been struggling as of late, Coutinho is still very much a magical player on his day. The midfielder has impeccable ball control, a good eye for a brilliant pass and a deadly right foot. Usually, he will be deployed on the left side of the pitch, either to cut centrally and advance through the half-space and then shoot from range, or as an attacking midfielder, slotting behind the striker in a free-roam role.

Either way, he is a creative and highly offensive outlet who can destabilise teams from range or simply wreak havoc in the final third with his passing and dribbling skills. Of course, he is not without faults and it very much feels he’s a player who fits only certain systems, the ones that are willing to adjust to him, rather than the other way around.

Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron must improve amid interest in another winger

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing Burnley’s Dwight Gayle and the fact that they want a winger is a bad sign for Miguel Almiron and his status in the squad.

On the chalkboard

McNeil has impressed ever since breaking into the Clarets’ side, adding five goal contributions this term to the eight he registered in 2018/19. He is certainly a player Steve Bruce will watch out for this weekend, and that means Newcastle’s interest should be welcomed.

Almiron, on the other hand, lacks quality in comparison to the 20-year-old, and although he works hard for his team and provides a different option, he needs to buck up his ideas soon.

Injury to Allan Saint-Maximin has increased the weight of responsibility on his shoulders to deliver in the final third, but he only has one assist and zero goals in almost a year at the club so it is unlikely that he will deliver the standard required.

As a result, Newcastle could struggle for goals, starting this weekend, but registering interest in other players could have a positive effect on the Paraguay international by providing an incentive for him to improve.

Take a trip down memory lane to a time when Newcastle were giants on the European stage in the video below…

Needs to impress

Almiron’s return in the attacking final third simply isn’t good enough for a player who was, at the time, a record signing for the Magpies after signing for £20m, and it makes sense that Newcastle are looking at potential recruits.

McNeil presents value for money as he is only 20 and valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, yet has managed one goal and four assists this campaign, and would be ideal for Andy Carroll or Joelinton.

His crossing is exactly what those two would thrive off, having averaged 1.8 successful crosses per game. Almiron, by contrast, has averaged just 0.1 completed crosses per game in 2019/20, and therefore offers very little other than his energy and hard work.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Liverpool signings…

The Burnley youngster joining would put Almiron’s position under threat due to the form of Saint-Maximin, as Almiron simply can’t compare to the Frenchman’s return of 4.5 successful dribbles this season.

The lack of strength in depth out wide, particularly with Matt Ritchie out long-term, means Newcastle are right to register interest in a player like McNeil, and they should pursue such a move until Almiron can prove he can provide a goal threat on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, Bruce will be hoping that another of his players begins to step up to the plate against Burnley, and if he does he could become the new first-choice in his position.

Glasgow Rangers: Gers find out Europa League fate

It has been confirmed that Glasgow Rangers will face Bayer Leverkusen either on August 5th or 6th in their Europa League round of 16 second leg, with the game taking place at the BayArena or at another ground in Germany.

The current pandemic has not only wreaked havoc in regards to the domestic leagues across Europe, but also in the continental competitions. In fact, playing out the remainder of the Europa League and the Champions League is even more problematic considering the current travel restrictions that are still in place.

However, it has now been confirmed that the Gers will play Die Werkself at the start of August, either at the German outfit’s home stadium or somewhere else in Germany.

If the game is played at the BayArena, the Gers could be provided with a surprise boost. In the Bundesliga, home advantage has dropped significantly since the league returned from its suspension – before this midweek’s round of fixtures, only 21% of matches had been won by the home side instead of 43% previously, whilst Leverkusen themselves have conceded four goals at home on two occasions in the past few weeks, against Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.

Of course, that may not translate to the Europa League, and the Gers already trail 3-1, but an empty stadium could play into their hands. They could well be hoping the match is played where it should be after all.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp shows his incredible versatility against Everton

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Liverpool were in fantastic form against Everton at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Reds beat their city rivals 5-2, which is now the 18th match in a row in which they have not lost to the Toffees. By beating Marco Silva’s men, they restored their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League following Leicester’s earlier victory, and they have now picked up maximum points in 14 of their 15 matches of the campaign in the league.

Not only that, but the dominant display came following a change in formation. Jurgen Klopp used a 4-2-3-1 formation for the first time this campaign, and it did wonders for the team as they put their opponents to the sword. It also brought the best out of some of players who took up slightly different responsibilities and roles.

Georginio Wijnaldum, in particular, was given the freedom to offer more offensively. He scored just his second goal of the term, and completed two of the three dribbles he attempted during the match. In the Premier League, he has averaged just 0.8 per match, which shows a significant increase. As part of a two in midfield, he was required to play a bigger role both defensively and in attack, and he rose to the occasion magnificently.

He was not the only way to offer his boss something different from his usual displays, either. Sadio Mane has been in fantastic form this term, as his 7.64 average WhoScored rating indicates, but he is more known for his goalscoring ability. Last season, he was Liverpool’s joint-top goalscorer with 26 goals, but added just five assists.

However, in 2019/20 he already has seven, and two came against the Toffees. It is the first time he has contributed more than one assist in a match since March 2018. Playing in a three behind the striker, and with therefore one more man in attack, he did not need to do as much of the goalscoring and shooting himself, enabling him to offer more for his teammates instead.

Real Reds will get full marks: Take the ultimate Liverpool quiz below…

They were not the only two to take up slightly different roles. Adam Lallana, for example, played in attacking midfield for just the second time this campaign and, although he couldn’t hit the heights of Mane, he still played his part. What this all shows is that Klopp has a lot versatility, and he is able to mould the players to his system rather than the other way around. A manager who is able to do that is worth his weight in gold.

Meanwhile, Liverpool fans loved one man’s display against Everton.

Wolves signing Dwight McNeil would be a coup if Nuno Santo changes his ways

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to TEAMtalk, Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of three Premier League clubs chasing Burnley’s emerging star Dwight McNeil.

He could well be a massive coup for the club, but only if manager Nuno Santo changes his attitude towards one aspect of his management.

Watch Wolverhampton Wanderers Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

What’s the word?

Reports suggest that Wolves are keen on adding the 19-year-old and they could well test Burnley’s resolve in the near future.

Although, it is believed that the Lancashire outfit would like at least £30m for the winger so it remains to be seen whether the hierarchy at the west Midlands club will put in any offer.

They will also have to compete with both Leicester City and Everton to secure his signature.

Nuno needs to change

McNeil’s breakthrough and subsequent rise has been nothing short of impressive as he’s worked his way through the Burnley system after being rejected by Manchester United.

Now he’s regularly featuring for Aidy Boothroyd’s England U21 squad where the Young Lions chief has described him as a “flair player” in the past.

The young starlet has developed substantially over the last few years which has been highlighted by his former youth manager’s comments.

Michael Jolley, now in charge of League Two side Grimsby Town, said: “I think he has always had a bit of an X Factor. He has such a good left foot, is a good physical size and has always had a terrific attitude to do the work and improve himself and work hard.”

Michael Kightly reveals the truth about his exit from Wolves in the video below…

These glowing reviews sound right up Nuno’s street, but if the Portuguese native were to whip out his wallet and splash the cash on McNeil, then he has to change his ways slightly.

It is well known that the Wolves boss rarely likes to rotate his squad – last season in the Premier League only 19 players featured in some substantial form while this term a similar pattern is brewing as 18 have played two or more matches.

If you were McNeil, you’d worry about any potential game time especially as Diogo Jota appears to hold down that left-sided spot as Nuno’s first choice having scored 32 times in 100 appearances, per Transfermarkt.
