Chris Gayle, the West Indies captain, has said that there were a “lot of things happening” which he didn’t know about regarding selection policy for the one-day series against Australia.Gayle said he was under the impression that the West Indies squad for the last two matches would comprise 14 players, not 13 as was later announced. “Based on the selection committee, there are some things I don’t have much control over at this point in time, regardless [of whether] I’m the captain or not,” Gayle told . “The majority of the time we discuss about selection and sometimes I get something totally different. It’s difficult on my side.”The selectors had made changes to the squad, which lost the first three one-dayers against Australia, bringing in three uncapped players – Kemar Roach, Shawn Findlay and Nikita Miller – and omitting Patrick Browne, Sulieman Benn, Kieron Pollard and the injured Jerome Taylor. Gayle did not say who the 14th player was but added that Nevis and West Indies Under-19 batsman Kieran Powell had been part of discussions.”We only have 13 in the squad at this particular time when there should be 14. I don’t know the reason behind that. A 14-man squad was selected,” Gayle said before the fourth match. “A lot of things are happening that I don’t know about. These are the things you have to deal with.”Gayle was also unhappy about the selectors experimenting with the squad for the series against Australia. “Do you really want to experiment with a team like Australia? If that is the case, it is going to be more difficult to beat them,” he said.”I thought it was the wrong time to try these things, to experiment a lot. It was the totally wrong time to do that … [we should be] actually trying to look for our best team rather than giving guys an opportunity. We should be looking to win the series, but it’s already gone.”West Indies lost the fourth match in St Kitts by one run and now trail 0-4 with one game to play. The fifth one-dayer will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts on July 6.

There were reports that Arteta had a private conversation with Sterling over joining Arsenal yesterday, with the Gunners then racing to get an agreement over the line as Chelsea also looked to get his £325,000-per-week wages off the books, for this campaign at least.

GiveMeSport reporter Ben Jacobs understands that Sterling has agreed to a pay cut as part of his temporary spell at Arsenal, with Arteta's men and Chelsea splitting the cost of his salary 50/50.

The 82-cap England international winger will don the number 10 shirt, which was left available by Emile Smith-Rowe after he completed his permanent switch to Fulham over the summer.

Unfortunately, the transfer came too late for Sterling to make his Premier League debut against Brighton today, as it wasn't done in time for him to be registered for the Emirates Stadium clash.

"Well to be fair, we never planned really to sign him when we started the transfer window, just to be very transparent. For different reasons," said Edu on the late signing of Sterling.

"But we always say to everyone that you have to be prepared for every single scenario. So when that opportunity came to me, and I checked the squad, I checked how he plays, and spoke to Mikel of course.

"I spoke to Tim [Lewis], our vice-chairman, to check if everyone is comfortable for the step we are going to take, and it makes a lot of sense. Yes, it makes a lot of sense to have someone like him because I’m pretty sure he is going to add a lot [to] the squad.

"He has experience, he understands more than anyone the league, he’s played in the Champions League many times. He won the Premier League a few times as well, so I think he can add a lot to our squad and I feel really happy to see someone like him in our squad."

Arsenal also planned "shock" late bid for Ivan Toney

With Sterling over the line, a report by Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey claims that Arsenal were also planning a late swoop for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

Indeed, before the 28-year-old sealed a marquee switch to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, it is believed Arsenal were readying a "shock" late bid to sign Toney – who was also on Chelsea's radar.

Other deadline day reports claimed Arsenal were on the lookout for opportunities in regard to a new striker, but perhaps the frantic last-minute nature of Sterling's deal meant that the north Londoners needed to pour all their energy into getting him over the line instead.

It means Arsenal go into the 24/25 season without signing a new prolific number nine, despite being tipped to do so all summer. However, it shouldn't be too much of a worry for Arteta, as the squad does have real attacking quality in a variety of attacking areas, especially with Sterling's late capture.

Toney, who Brentford valued at £100 million in January, is now gearing up for a new chapter in the Middle East.

واختتم: “حسين لبيب رئيس الزمالك هو المسئول عن ملف الكرة في الوقت الحالي لحين تشكيل لجنة كرة رسمية”.

يذكر أن الزمالك كان قد نجح في التعاقد مع صفقتين خلال الميركاتو الشتوي الحالي، وهما محمود جهاد لاعب فاركو، وأحمد حسام مدافع فريق الجونة.

Mark Williams, CEO of a financial services company, has been appointed CEO of Eastern Province (EP) Cricket, where the Warriors franchise is based. Williams takes over from Jesse Chellan, who will be the ICC’s regional director for cricket in Africa, from September. Chellan spent 17 months with Eastern Province, during which time they secured new sponsorships and underwent stadium upgrades.Williams has been involved in cricket in the region in the past. He was the lead independent director on the EP Cricket Board when they were placed under administration by Cricket South Africa. As a result, he is familiar with the turbulence at the union, which resulted in former president Graeme Sauls being ousted after allegedly making several decisions without board approval. Since then, cricket in the province has stabilised and under Chellan’s tenure, EP won the most improved affiliate prize CSA’s annual awards in 2016.Williams is a Port Elizabeth local who attended the Bethelsdorp High School and studied at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He holds an MBA and has worked in banking for 24 years. In 2008, he was awarded the Young Global Leader Award by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.Among the challenges facing Williams will be to ensure St George’s Park continues to remain among South Africa’s premier Test grounds. It will host the Boxing Day Test match against Sri Lanka later this year as proof of its prestige. More pressingly, he will want to ensure the franchise, Warriors, add to their trophy cabinet after several seasons without success. The tricky forward primarily plays as a winger, using his pace and dribbling ability to go past defenders with ease. Across 29 league matches, he succeeded with one dribble per match, however, it’s his finishing skills which have perhaps caught Beale’s eye.

The 23-year-old scored 11 league goals last term, while taking 2.1 shots per game, and he is also able to create plenty of opportunities too, evidenced by his four assists and 1.4 key passes per game.

With this in mind, the 42-year-old could slot Palma into the left-wing slot vacated by Kent, while giving Ianis Hagi free rein in his favoured position – attacking midfield.

The duo could combine well, with Palma’s pace being the perfect foil for Hagi’s intelligence and while he has just recovered from a serious knee injury, a solid pre-season could allow him to replicate his performances during 2020/21.

During that title-winning season, he scored seven goals and grabbed 11 assists, showcasing his creative abilities and if Beale manages to sign a top-class centre forward this summer to replace Morelos, then they could be in for a treat due to the respective talents of Hagi and Palma.

The Honduran was lauded for his “brilliant” goal contributions by agent Paulo Hernandez and placed in a fluid attacking trio behind the main striker could allow him to flourish.

If he manages to hit the ground running, £4.4m could be a sound investment from the Gers.

وأشار اتحاد بوركينا فاسو في بيان له، إلى أن اللجنة التنفيذية للاتحاد البوركينابي لكرة القدم، قامت بتقييم مشاركة المنتخب في كأس الأمم الإفريقية 2023، وأكدت اللجنة أن النتائج جاءت أقل من توقعات الشعب البوركينابي.

وأضاف: “أن ما تم ملاحظته خلال بطولة كأس الأمم الإفريقية لا يتماشى مع طموحات اللجنة التنفيذية لكرة القدم البوركينابية”.

ولهذا السبب، قرر الاتحاد البوركينابي توجيه الشكر إلى المدرب هوبير فيلود والإدارة الفنية ككل، وعدم تجديد عقده.

ويتواجد منتخب بوركينا فاسو في المجموعة الأولى من تصفيات كأس العالم 2026 مع منتخب مصر وغينيا بيساو وجيبوتي وسيراليون وإثيوبيا.

ومن المقرر أن المباراة القادمة لـ بوركينا فاسو ستكون أمام منتخب مصر في إطار الجولة الثالثة من مواجهات المجموعة، ومحدد إقامتها يوم 3 من شهر يونيو المقبل.
