Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers side will be looking to return to winning ways as they head into Scottish Cup action on Friday night.

They were held to a 1-1 draw by Aberdeen in the Premiership earlier this week and now come up against League Two outfit Stirling Albion.

This match could be an opportunity for a number of fringe players to get welcome minutes and for others to find their confidence following the frustrating draw with the Dons.

We are predicting that he will make seven alterations to the side from the draw at Pittodrie, with Jon McLaughlin, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, Cedric Itten, Fashion Sakala, Alex Lowry and John Lundstram all coming in.

Starting off between the sticks, McLaughlin could get the nod to enjoy some minutes after a lengthy spell out of the team. He has not played a competitive game for Rangers since 9 December against Lyon, and this is the perfect chance to bring him back in for a match.

Van Bronckhorst could also swap out his two first-choice centre-backs, Connor Goldson and Calvin Bassey, to start Balogun and Simpson for the same reason. The aforementioned duo have started every game under the Dutchman and could be rested for this cup clash.

The Scotsman have reported that Lowry will be given his first-team bow in this game and we are predicting that it will come from the start. The 18-year-old could be handed the opportunity to show what he can do over the course of 90 minutes at senior level, which could be an audition for his chance to play in the Premiership between now and the end of the season.

Lundstram could then come in alongside him in place of Glen Kamara, with James Sands keeping his spot in the XI. The American, who joined from New York City FC this month, could need additional minutes to build relationships with his new team-mates, which is why he could start tonight.

In the frontline, Sakala and Itten could both be played from the start in order to help them find some form in front of goal. They both came off the bench in the draw at Aberdeen, and Van Bronckhorst could axe Alfredo Morelos and Scott Wright from the team.

The Colombian endured a difficult night against the Dons and could be axed from the XI as a result. The £33k-per-week gem was not at his best, so handing him a rest here could be a shrewd call by the head coach.

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed that the Magpies want to bring the French centre-back to the club as their next signing.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think the other player they’d like to sign now is Benoit Badiashile from Monaco although he’s currently injured.”

This comes after Sky Sports reported that the player is interested in making the move to St James’ Park before the end of the month.

A number of Manchester United supporters have praised Edinson Cavani after it was claimed he would stay put at the club beyond the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are suffering a tough time of things at the moment, with poor results and performances on the pitch and Ralf Rangnick’s squad seemingly an unhappy bunch off it. The Mirror made a shocking claim last week that as many as 17 players are seeking to leave the club, with the Uruguay striker named as one of them.

The hope is that United enjoy an upturn in fortunes soon, starting with victory at home to Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Monday night.

However, one player who seems to remain highly popular among many of the United faithful is Cavani, with the Uruguayan proving to be an excellent signing, scoring 19 goals in 50 appearances for the club thus far.

There has been speculation over a potential January exit but it now looks as though he will stay put, with journalist Fabrizio Romano sharing some comments from Ralf Rangnick via Twitter.

The interim manager said: “I spoke with Edinson Cavani almost half an hour. He told me he will definitely stay at Man United this January. I can rely on him to give his very best and to be a role model for young players.”

Rafa Benitez has had a bad start to his tenure, with a poor first half of the season by Everton’s standards currently sitting in 15th.

As a result, he has come under fire from fans, however, there is a chance to redeem himself by having a successful and impactful transfer window that can revive the club’s season by earning points and climbing the table.

What’s the word?

According to The Athletic, Everton are interested in signing Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo, with Benitez potentially completing his defensive line overhaul in the summer by offering the 22-year-old better terms than the La Liga giants.

The Spanish manager has already secured two young full-backs, Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko, who joined the club over the last week since the transfer window has opened, with the signings suggesting that he is keen to add more depth and reliability in the back line.

The £35k-per-week gem who “has everything” according to Gerard Pique, has been at Barcelona since 2018 and is on significantly less than many of his peers in the first team, with just 18 months left on his basic contract, it is reported that the youngster will start looking at his options.

Bye bye Holgate

Mason Holgate has been a complete liability for Everton this season, from getting red-carded in a high footed dangerous challenge against Tottenham Hotspur to lacking in presence as part of the defensive line this, losing the majority of his ground duels (56%) this season and losing possession 22 times in the defeat to Brighton last weekend according to SofaScore.

One fan Tweeted a shout to sell the 25-year-old Toffees defender during his most recent performance, summing up how bad he’s been; “Sell Holgate at half time.”

Araujo, on the other hand, is having an amazing season so far with Barcelona, gaining a more consistent place in the first team, with 21 appearances and two La Liga goals so far.

According to SofaScore, when it comes to the Uruguayan youngster’s defensive credentials this season, he has won 68% of total duels, and when you compare to Holgate’s shocking possession loss (22) in his latest appearance, Araujo only lost the ball eight times in his most recent appearance against Betis.

Benitez may now have the opportunity to axe Holgate, as he is linked with a move to Burnley this January, leaving a place for Araujo to slot into the defensive line, who clearly offers a better output both offensively and defensively which would make a big difference to Everton’s current struggles.

-O Palmeiras era um grupo de amigos que foi destruído, de certa forma, e o Valentim conseguiu resgatar essa situação, essa amizade nossa dentro e fora de campo. Isso é muito importante. Começamos a jogar futebol, começamos a ter mais alegrias para jogar futebol. Pena que foi no fim, mas Deus sabe de todas as coisas. Mérito também ao Corinthians, aos outros clubes que tiraram ponto da gente. Agora temos que pensar em todos os erros que cometemos esse ano para não repetir no próximo – disse o volante.

Não é segredo para ninguém que Felipe Melo teve um forte atrito com Cuca, chegando até a ser afastado do elenco. Mas o jogador não quis entrar em detalhes sobre a “destruição” do grupo:

Mas eu vou ser bem sincero, como sempre sou em todas as minhas respostas: eu espero que ele esteja no ano que vem em um clube grande, em um bom clube, que ele possa seguir a carreira dele como treinador. É um cara que sabe muito, entende muito de futebol, acho que seria um desperdício. Se ficar, vai agregar muito, porque é muito inteligente, mas eu espero que ele tenha a oportunidade de seguir carreira como treinador. Como falei, vai dar o que falar – disse.

Após 19 anos, a Ponte Preta está de volta a uma final na categoria sub-20. Na manhã do último domingo, o time campineiro perdeu para o Água Santa, por 1 a 0, em Campinas, mas por ter vencido pelo mesmo placar no duelo de ida e jogar por dois resultados iguais deixou o campo classificado para enfrentar o Palmeiras na decisão do Campeonato Paulista.

A Ponte foi superior no primeiro tempo, criando várias chances de gol. Na etapa final a Ponte Preta acabou perdendo o jogador Regino, expulso, e logo em seguido sofreu o primeiro gol do Água Santa. Com um a menos, a Ponte precisou apostar nos contra-ataques e confiou no goleiro Ivan para fechar o gol até o fim.

– Foi um confronto duríssimo, como esperado. Além da grande campanha, a equipe do Água Santa eliminou o São Paulo, atual campeão. Nosso plano de jogo foi executado à perfeição nos dois jogos, mas é claro que os gols perdidos e a expulsão no início do segundo tempo fizeram o segundo jogo ter um caráter dramático. O mérito dessa classificação se deve ao comprometimento dos atletas e à competência do nosso processo de formação, senão, não sustentaríamos o desempenho com todos os imprevistos que tivemos que gerenciar – disse o técnico Leandro Zago.

Na final a Ponte Preta terá pela frente o Palmeiras, que eliminou o Novorizontino na outra semi. Zago enalteceu o fato de a Macaca estar novamente numa decisão e elogiou o adversário.
