Southampton starlet delighted by debut

Southampton’s latest academy product, Andy Robinson, was delighted to make his first-team debut on Tuesday and admits it came as a shock. The official Southampton website reports.

The midfielder came on for the injured Jack Cork, ten minutes from time in Saints’ Capital One Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

“It happened quite quickly and was unexpected, but it was great to get on”, Robinson told Saints Player. “This was the first time I’ve even been on the bench, so to come on was a bonus.

“I’m really happy. I’ve been around [the First Team] a lot, and they are really great with me and the other young players.”

The 19-year-old is part of the club’s Under-21 side, who are currently unbeaten and lead the table.

He is very pleased with his personal progress and feels he is on track to succeed with the south coast club.

“I’m really happy at the moment. I had a little blip with an injury but I’m still ahead of where I thought I’d be at this stage”, he added.

“I take everything as it comes, like the other night because that was unexpected. It’s about working as hard as you can.”

Man City ace hails Tevez’s influence

Manchester City defender Gael Clichy has hailed the importance of Carlos Tevez at the club.

The Argentina international had a controversial 2011-12 as he went AWOL after refusing to come off the bench in a Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

However, with the South American forward restored to the Premier League champions’ squad, Clichy has stated that Tevez is a crucial player for Roberto Mancini’s men.

“He has been our best player so far this season,” the France international told The Sun.

“He’s scored goals, worked really hard. He’s just a great player.

“What happened in Munich, and after, is nothing to do with me. It was between him and the boss.

“It’s all sorted now. Carlos in top form would be a great player for any team. Let’s hope he can carry on scoring.

“The passion he has for the game, the way he presses defenders, lifts the team — we need a player like this so well done Carlos.

“We want players who bring something extra and he does that. He can make a big difference for us this season,” the full-back concluded.

Moyes in for Allardyce at West Ham: A good idea?

Since the 2011/2012 season when Sam Allardyce took over West Ham after their relegation to the Championship, the former Bolton manager has come under heavy scrutiny from the fans, despite guiding them to promotion and keeping them in England’s top flight for the third season in a row. Quite a feat with the managerial merry-go-round an unpredictable theme, year after year, not just in the Premier League, but in all four divisions in the country. But with calls for Big Sam’s head being made from all four corners of the Boleyn Ground and a vast amount of managers available, why are the owners ignoring the demands of the fans?

With the 2014/2015 Premier league season well and truly under way, a more attacking style and attractive brand of football was instructed by the club’s board in order to bring the famous traditions back and please the club’s fans. However, this is not Allardyce’s philosophy, and has never played passing football while he had spells at the Trotters, Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers. Asking a manager to play attractive football on the deck which is not in his nature is an absolutely stupid ultimatum to make. With the season only just kicked off, sacking Allardyce wouldn’t be the worst decision to make.

With the dreaded international break in full swing, dismissing Big Sam would allow a new manager to put plans in place, and get to know the squad ahead of their away trip to Hull City in two weeks. One man that most would like to take to the helm at Upton Park is former Everton and Manchester United gaffer David Moyes. Despite his unsuccessful spell with the Red Devils last season, Moyes’ credentials and achievements at Goodison Park are good enough to convince most people associated with West Ham that he would be a vital asset. On a low budget, and playing quality football, Moyes took the Toffees to fourth place and into the Champions League qualifying round in 2005, were they lost to Villarreal. This is exactly what West Ham need ahead of their anticipated move into the Olympic Stadium in time for the 2016/2017 season. However, getting rid of Allardyce is harder than most people think.

Allardyce is in the final year of his contract at West Ham, but would be eager to sign an extension considering how much he is earning – a staggering £2.95m a year. In 2013, he was the 13th highest paid manger in the world, earning the same amount as current England gaffer Roy Hodgson, and earning more income than Napoli chief Rafa Benitez, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and Germany national team coach Joachim Loew. On that sort of salary, Allardyce is not going walk out on his own free will, getting him sacked would mean paying off the rest of his contract, and with over £25m spent on bringing new players to club, it wouldn’t be sustainable or financial healthy. For a manager, whose only expectation is to keep his club in the top flight, Big Sam is driving the Hammers into the middle of nowhere.

For a club, that is based on bringing home grown players from the famous ‘Academy of Football’ whom are taught from a young age to play football on the floor, Allardyce has completely ignored what has been with the team for years, even failing to convince academy director, Tony Carr MBE to stay in his role. A man who has served the club with great distinction and produced players like Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard is no longer in a position to produce more players of the same calibre.  When was the last time the Hammers brought through a youngster from the academy into the first team?

David Moyes, who brought through Wayne Rooney and bought the likes of Mikel Arteta and Leighton Baines to the club, this is a man who can lead West Ham to success especially when the Hammers move into the Olympic stadium.

Everton fans hated Jordan Pickford’s display on final day

Everton ended the English Premier League season in eight place despite losing on the final day away to West Ham United.

The pressure continues to grow on manager Sam Allardyce, with fans again showing their discontent with his leadership in the stands at the London Stadium.

The 3-1 defeat was their seventh in the top-flight since the turn of the year and many supporters are looking for the club to move in a different direction to Allardyce’s pragmatic style of play.

It was a day when no played shone for the Toffees, with usually consistent performers like Jordan Pickford even playing poorly.

Pickford has arguably been the most impressive of last summer’s big signings, but he struggled between the sticks on Sunday, at fault for two of the Hammers’ goals.

Fans, although recognising his contribution this season, were unhappy with his performance, noting it could hamper his chances of starting for England in this summer’s World Cup.

Spurs fans want Rebic after his performance vs Argentina

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Croatia international Ante Rebic, according to Bild, via The Express.

The Express’ report says that a fee of £26.3million would convince the German club to sell the winger to Spurs, with the London club looking to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign.

The Croatian winger impressed against Nigeria in the first round, and capped off a brilliant performance against Argentina with a terrific volley in Croatia’s 3-0 win yesterday.

Rebic has been a consistent performer for his club side Eintracht Frankfurt. He played 25 games for the Bundesliga side last season, scoring six goals and contributing three assists to a side that went on to win the German Cup.

Spurs fans seem to think he is a steal at just over £25m, and they are not holding back in their excitement surrounding the Croatian on the back of his brilliant performances at the World Cup.

Kyle Jarvis, the Zimbabwe fast bowler who recently retired from international cricket, has joined Lancashire on a three-year-deal as a non-overseas player, subject to registration.”I am delighted to be joining Lancashire on a three-year contract, as playing county cricket has been an ambition of mine for a number of years and the opportunity to forge a career in England was one that was too good to miss,” Jarvis said.Jarvis, 24, made his international debut in 2009 and went on to play 24 ODIs, taking 27 wickets at an average of 45.22. He also played in eight Tests since his debut against Bangladesh in 2011, with 30 wickets at 31.73, but has said he now hopes to qualify to play for England.”I have loved my time playing for Zimbabwe, and I am extremely grateful for the part they have played in my development, but I feel the time is right to take on a new challenge and a new career,” he said. “Reaching this decision has been an incredibly difficult process but I intend to make a home for myself in Manchester and hope my stay at Lancashire far outlasts this initial contract. My future is with Lancashire and in the county game with an end goal of potentially becoming English qualified in the future.”This club is one with great heritage and history and I hope to be able to contribute significantly to its future with the ball in hand and I am excited about helping the club’s quest for silverware in coming seasons.”Jarvis, whose first-class bowling average is 23.58, has also notched 30 wickets in 34 Twenty20 matches and Mike Watkinson, Lancashire’s director of cricket, said that the addition would bolster the team’s bowling. Lancahisre said Jarvis is due to join up with his new county “in the near future”.”The opportunity to sign someone of Kyle’s age and potential does not arise very often,” Watkinson said. “We feel he will be a great addition to our bowling attack for many years to come”
